5Why Methodology – Root Cause Analysis
Detailed Description
The innovative training program, 5WHY – Root Cause Analysis method for identifying and analyzing the causes of a problem or an undesirable situation in general (from the consequence to the root of the problem with 5 times “why”).
The 5Whys methodology is an iterative interaction technique used to explore the cause-and-effect relationships underlying a particular problem. The primary objective of the technique is to identify the root cause of a defect or problem by repeating the question “Why?”. Each answer forms the basis of the next question. The “5 whys” comes from a weighted observation about the number of “why” questions required to solve the problem.
This program is addressed to staff and executives at all levels of hierarchy of any company. It also concerns employees who have been assigned the responsibility of running specific tasks and the efficiency of defined processes.
Duration: 16 hours.
What does the Training Program provide ?
The purpose of the program is to train relevant business executives regarding:
- the use of the 5 Whys technique to address situations, improve quality and solve problems, but is most effective when used to solve simple or moderately difficult problems.
- the ability to discern whether a complex or critical problem needs to be addressed in its entirety or only one part, or a limited number of parts, of the investigation, when, in fact, there could be multiple causes.
- using this simple technique, they are often able to quickly get to the root cause of a problem whenever a system, situation or process is not working properly.
- the great flexibility and simplicity of the 5 Whys tool which combines well with other methods and techniques such as Root Cause Analysis and is often associated with Lean Manufacturing where it is used to identify and eliminate practices that lead to waste. It is also used in the “analysis” phase of the Six Sigma quality improvement methodology.
- the development of a mindset of improving “competition” and a climate of recognition of efforts
- the development and further improvement of the spirit of discipline by everyone at work and the correct application of the processes.
